1. Introduction and scope

Welcome to Scanguin ("Scanguin," "the App," "Service"). These Terms of Service (this "Agreement") are a legally binding agreement between you and Tarfion Ltd, Griva Digeni, 59, Kaimakliotis Building, 5th Floor, 6043 Larnaca, Cyprus ("Company," "we," "us"), under these Terms of Use ("Terms"), whether you act in your personal capacity or as a representative of a company or other entity ("User"). governing your use of the App. Read this Agreement carefully before you use the Service.

Scanguin turns your camera into a document scanner and processes everything it captures on your device, not on our servers. The App lets you:

Scan and clean up documents - automatic edge detection and capture, on-device OCR, color/B&W enhancement, multi-page PDF export, HD and book-spread scanning, ID/passport dual-side layout, and import of existing files or images.
Edit, convert, and organize PDFs - Sign (place your signature on a page), Annotate, Watermark, Merge, Split, Extract pages, Compress, Protect (lock a PDF with a password), Print, and conversion to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, and PDF.
Understand documents, on-device - Smart Redact (automatically finds and blacks out card numbers, IBAN, email addresses, phone numbers, document numbers, and dates of birth in a copy of the document), Doc Brief (a short summary, key facts, and answers to questions about a document, running on Apple Intelligence where available or a local on-device algorithm otherwise), Deadline Radar (finds payment due dates and deadlines in documents and sets reminders), Expense Ledger (recognizes receipts and invoices - store, amount, date, category - and charts spending, exportable as CSV), Smart Auto-Name and Auto-Folder (names and suggests a folder for a scan based on its detected type), Deep Search (full-text search across every page of every scan), and contextual Smart suggestions on the home screen.
Turn paper into action - Card → Contact (parses a business card into a contact), Paper → Checklist (turns a photographed list into an interactive checklist, recognizing already-checked items), and Read Aloud (reads a document aloud with sentence-level highlighting).
Protect quality and privacy - Scan Coach (flags blur, poor lighting, or skew right after capture and suggests a retake) and Face ID Vault (a private, Face ID-locked folder hidden from search and other tools).
Extra tools - Stamp Studio (Approved/Paid/Received/Confidential/Draft/custom stamps with a date), QR Studio (generates QR codes for a link, text, Wi-Fi, or contact), QR Scanner, Measure (an on-screen ruler calibrated against a bank card, auto-detecting page formats like A4, Letter, or ID-1), and Paper Footprint (an estimate of paper, water, CO₂, and time saved, with streaks and achievements).
Pip - the App's penguin mascot, with levels, quests, and evolution stages, and a chat where Pip answers questions about the App. Pip's replies are generated on your device by Apple Intelligence where available, or by built-in replies otherwise; your messages are not sent to our servers.

You may use the Service only if you can form a binding agreement with us and aren't barred from receiving services under the laws that apply to you.

Notice about Subscription

We offer paid services with subscription. Your subscription will renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel it before the applicable renewal date. The renewal price, billing frequency, and any trial or promotional terms will be disclosed before purchase. For more information about recurring charges, cancellation, and renewals, please review our Subscription Policy.

2. Eligibility

When you create an account or use the Service, you confirm you've reached the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, or, if not, that you have your parent's or legal guardian's consent and that they agree to be bound by this Agreement on your behalf. If you're a parent or guardian, you agree to be responsible for the minor's use of the account, including any purchases.

3. Your account

Creating an account is optional: you can scan, edit, and subscribe without one. If you choose to create one, you can sign in with Sign in with Apple or with an email address and password. Your account is used only to sign you in and to restore your Scanguin Pro subscription on your devices; your documents are not uploaded to or synced through it.

Keep your account credentials confidential and don't share them with anyone. You're responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at support@scanguin.app if you suspect unauthorized access.

We may restrict, suspend, or delete your Account where we reasonably consider such action necessary. This may include situations where:

you violate these Terms or other rules applicable to the Service;
we detect or reasonably suspect fraudulent, abusive, or otherwise improper activity;
your use of the Service may compromise the security or integrity of the Service or other users;
we are required to act under applicable law, a binding regulatory obligation, or a lawful request from a competent authority; or
the Service, or a relevant part of it, is discontinued.

If we terminate your Account, your right to access and use the Service will end. Where reasonably possible and legally permitted, we may give you notice before taking such action and, where appropriate, allow you an opportunity to address the relevant issue.

Any provisions of these Terms that are intended to continue after termination will remain in effect. This may include provisions concerning intellectual property, limitations of liability, dispute resolution, and governing law.

Closing Your Account

You may stop using the Service whenever you choose. Please note, however, that closing your Account and canceling a Subscription are separate processes.

Canceling a Subscription stops future renewals but does not automatically delete your Account or associated Content. Likewise, deleting your Account does not automatically cancel an active Subscription. If a Subscription is active, it must be canceled separately through the applicable cancellation process.

You may delete your Account in the App under Settings (the gear icon on the Home screen) → Account → Delete Account, or by contacting our Support Team at support@scanguin.app.

After Account deletion, we may retain certain information for a limited period where this is required or permitted by applicable law. This may include information needed for legal or regulatory compliance, fraud and abuse prevention, security, payment and billing records, dispute handling, legal claims, and backup or record-retention purposes. Additional information about data retention is available in our Privacy Policy.

4. License and prohibited conduct

License. Subject to this Agreement, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and use the Service for as long as you're not barred from doing so and until you stop using the Service or we terminate this Agreement.

Prohibited conduct. You won't: (a) circumvent or bypass technical protection measures (for example, to unlock paid features without paying); (b) disassemble, decompile, decrypt, or reverse-engineer the App or its OCR/recognition engine, except where applicable law mandatorily permits it; (c) extract internal components for use in other programs or devices; (d) publish, copy, rent, lease, sell, or distribute the App without our written authorization; (e) transfer the App, a license, or subscription benefits to anyone else; (f) interfere with others' use of the Service or attempt to access our servers, other users' accounts, or our network without authorization; (g) access the Service through unauthorized third-party apps, plug-ins, or unofficial APIs; or (h) engage in conduct that seriously infringes our lawful rights.

You represent that you have the rights needed to enter into this Agreement, that your use of the Service won't violate any law or infringe anyone's rights (including privacy, IP, or publicity rights), and that you won't use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

If you breach this Agreement, we may stop providing the Service to you, suspend our obligations, or terminate this Agreement, without prejudice to any other remedy available to us. You're liable for losses this causes.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service or any part of it at any time, with or without notice, and we're not liable to you or any third party for doing so.

5. Your Content

Ownership. You own Your Content. We don't claim ownership of it, and - unlike some competitors - we don't need a broad license to it, because Your Content is processed on your device and isn't uploaded to our servers in the ordinary course of using the Service.

Limited processing license. Your account never stores or syncs Your Content. To the extent any processing happens off your device - for example, if you choose to share or export a file through a Third-Party Service - you grant us only the narrow, non-exclusive license needed to carry out that specific action you requested, for as long as needed to perform it. We don't use Your Content to train models, for advertising, or for any purpose beyond providing the feature you asked for.

Content legality. You're responsible for Your Content and must have the lawful right to capture, process, and store it. This matters especially for ID/passport scans, contact details on business cards, and other people's personal information: you confirm you have a lawful basis to process it. We may remove or restrict access to content that violates this Agreement or applicable law, where we become aware of it on our own systems (which, for on-device content, is generally the extent we can see at all).

6. Fees and subscription

Paid Features. Some functionality within the App may only be available as part of a paid plan or Subscription. Depending on the offer you select, a Subscription may continue on a recurring basis until it is canceled.

Before you complete any paid transaction, we will display the principal terms that apply to your purchase. These may include the price, currency, duration of the billing period, renewal conditions, any applicable trial or promotional terms, and the amount that may be charged for the next Subscription period. Additional information about recurring billing, renewals, cancellations, trial offers, and price adjustments is available in our Subscription Policy.

Charges and Taxes. By completing a purchase, you agree to pay the amount shown to you during the checkout process, together with any taxes that apply to the transaction. Your bank, card provider, or other payment service may impose separate fees, including currency conversion or cross-border transaction charges. We do not determine or collect such third-party fees.

Cancellations and Refunds. Unless otherwise stated in the applicable offer, these Terms, or required under applicable law, amounts already charged are generally not refundable. Canceling a Subscription will prevent subsequent automatic renewals but will not ordinarily reverse or refund charges relating to a Subscription period that has already been purchased.

7. Intellectual property rights

We own all intellectual property in the App, our brand, and our software ("Our Content"). You may not use, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from Our Content without our prior written consent, and you may not reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App except where applicable law mandatorily permits it.

This Agreement doesn't transfer any intellectual property rights to you beyond the limited license.

8. Third-party services

The Service may link to or integrate with Third-Party Services (for example, Share Sheet destinations, cloud storage you choose to export to, Sign in with Apple, or Apple Intelligence). These are operated independently, under their own terms and privacy policies, which we don't control. We're not responsible for their content, availability, security, or how they handle data you choose to send them. Any dispute about a Third-Party Service is between you and that provider.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect, consequential, special, incidental, punitive, or exemplary damages (including lost revenue, profits, or business) arising from this Agreement or your use of the Service, even if we were advised of the possibility of such damages.

The Service, and any Third-Party Services it links to, may be unavailable, time-limited, or vary by region or device.

Except for gross negligence, willful misconduct, indemnification obligations, or your payment obligations, each party's total liability under this Agreement won't exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

10. Disclaimer

To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. Specifically, and without limiting the above:

OCR and text recognition can misread characters, especially on handwriting, poor lighting, or low-quality scans. Don't rely on recognized text as authoritative for financial, legal, medical, or identity documents without checking it against the original.
Smart Redact is not a guarantee. It automatically looks for patterns like card numbers (with a Luhn check), IBAN, email addresses, phone numbers, document numbers, and dates of birth, but it can miss sensitive data or redact things it shouldn't. Review the redacted copy yourself before sharing it - the original, unredacted document is never modified, so you can always re-check against it.
Doc Brief, Deadline Radar, and Expense Ledger are automated suggestions, not verified facts. Summaries, extracted deadlines, and expense categorization can be wrong or incomplete; confirm anything important (a due date, a total, a key fact) against the original document before acting on it.
Smart Auto-Name, Auto-Folder, and Smart suggestions are convenience features based on automated content analysis; they can misclassify a document or suggest the wrong action.
Conversion to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is built from the recognized text of each page (and, optionally, the page images). It doesn't reproduce the original layout, fonts, or tables exactly and inherits any OCR errors; check the converted file before relying on it.
Protect (PDF password). We don't store the password you set. If you forget it, we can't open or recover the protected file for you; keep the password somewhere safe.
Pip's chat gives automated answers that can be inaccurate or incomplete. It's a help feature about the App, not professional advice of any kind.
Read Aloud is a text-to-speech convenience feature, not a substitute for reading the document yourself where accuracy matters.
Scan Coach gives optional capture-quality suggestions; following or ignoring them is your choice, and it doesn't guarantee a usable scan.
Face ID Vault stores its contents only in local, on-device app storage, with no cloud sync. If Face ID fails and no fallback passcode is configured, or if you uninstall the App, vault content may become inaccessible or is permanently deleted; we hold no copy and can't recover it for you.
Measure is a camera-based estimate calibrated against a reference card, not a certified or surveying-grade measurement; don't rely on it where precise dimensions matter.
Paper Footprint figures (paper, water, CO₂, time saved) are estimates for motivational purposes, not certified environmental accounting.
Card → Contact and Paper → Checklist results are generated from your photo and may misparse a field or a checklist item; review before saving.
Gamification (Pip's levels, quests, and evolution, streaks, achievements) has no cash value and doesn't entitle you to any benefit beyond what's stated in the App.

None of the above is a substitute for your own judgment, especially for legal, financial, medical, or identity-related documents.

11. Privacy

We process your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy. Please read it.

Your Content - scanned documents, OCR text, ID/passport scans, and the processing behind Smart Redact, Doc Brief, Deadline Radar, Expense Ledger, Smart Auto-Name/Auto-Folder, and Deep Search - stays on your device. We act as a technical provider of on-device processing; we don't receive or store the content of your documents on our servers in the ordinary course of using the Service.

You're responsible for having a lawful basis to process any third party's personal data captured in a scan (for example, another person's contact details on a business card).

12. Term and termination

This Agreement applies for as long as you use the Service. You can stop at any time by deleting the App from your device and, if you created an account, deleting your account (Settings → Account → Delete Account). Deleting the App or your account doesn't cancel an active Subscription; cancel it separately in your Apple ID subscription settings.

We may suspend or terminate your access for maintenance, to make a change we've notified you of, if we reasonably believe you've breached this Agreement, if your use creates risk or potential claims against us, or where required by law.

You remain responsible for fees accrued before suspension or termination. Terminating ends your rights under this Agreement but doesn't limit any other remedy available to us.

13. Force majeure

Neither party is in breach of this Agreement for a delay or failure caused by events beyond its reasonable control - natural disasters, war, government acts, internet or infrastructure failures, cyberattacks, or similar - other than the obligation to pay fees already due. The affected party will use reasonable efforts to limit the impact.

14. Changes to this Agreement

We may update this Agreement over time, for example to reflect product changes or legal requirements. Where reasonably practicable, we'll notify you before a change takes effect. If you disagree with an update, stop using the Service before it takes effect (and, if you created an account, delete it); continuing to use the Service afterward means you accept the update.

15. Governing law and dispute resolution

This Agreement and any dispute arising from it will be governed by the laws of Cyprus, with exclusive jurisdiction in the courts of Cyprus, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

16. Notices

We may notify you of matters under this Agreement through in-app announcements or push notifications. If you turn off push notifications for the App, you'll still see in-app announcements the next time you open it.

17. Miscellaneous

Entire agreement. This Agreement is the entire agreement between you and us about the Service and supersedes any prior understanding on the same subject.

Severability. If a court finds a provision invalid, that provision is removed without affecting the rest of the Agreement, which remains enforceable to the maximum extent permitted by law.
